2881 South Kihei Road Pool Heating Study

Maui Hill Resort management and the AOAO board of directors requested that we provide recommendations on the optimum way to heat the 70,000 gallon swimming pool for 4 months in the winter.

The Methods Studied Were:

  1. Solar pool heating panels
  2. Heat pump
  3. Liquid pool cover

The heat pump was recommended as the optimum method to heat the pool. We also recommended that a liquid pool cover be used on the spa and pool to see how well conserves heat in this particular micro climate. Several ways to reduce the electric bill were recommended to offset the electricity used by the heat pump.

These are primarily replacing the existing pool and spa pumps with variable speed high efficiency pumps. A solar electric (PV) survey was performed and it was determined that Maui Hill is not a good candidate for installing a system.
